Kimonos are timeless iconic pieces that can be styled in infinite ways. What a Kimono is to an over 50 babe- is that she can show as little or as much as she chooses. Draped in a Kimono- a woman feels comfortable, confident, elegant and beautiful. It is a veil of confidence in the form of a garment.
When a common thread that inspires one- also inspires another; therein lies a pathway to connection. The eyes are quickly seduced. They light up with an instant love of likeminded aesthetics. This is enchanting on a surface layer- the way one can effortless style outfits together and pair clothing in seemingly effortless ways is an intuitive skill that has more to do with aligning with feeling a certain way as much as it does to looking a certain way. The two go hand in hand.
Inspirer not Influencer
Light-years beyond simply appealing to what the eyes can consume through unconscious scrolling- is the way a soul’s vulnerability is shown through words that surround and breathe life into that beautiful image. The rawness and realness of a voice sharing a personal journey transforms a 2-D image into something relatable and resonant and emotional. A gripping soul-connection pulls you in. And this was the birth of my friend Wendy Euler’s ‘Good Bye Crop Top’www.goodbyecroptop.com. She is not an Influencer. She is an Inspirer.
“50 is the New 50!”
Wendy Euler started Good-Bye Crop Top with this one statement that has profoundly inspired a legion of incredible women who admire her mindset as much as her style. GBCT is a blog/social media platform championing women in their late 40's, 50's, 60's and up to be their most fabulous and unapologetic self. It’s about wanting to feel relevant and stylish and not wearing what the 20-somethings are trending and wearing(yup, no more crop-tops). It’s about discovering and re-discovering your own sense of style and not taking yourself or life too seriously. It’s about reconnecting with parts of you that you have lost through the years and that you are recovering and immersing into the practice of self-love. Adorning yourself intentionally and inspiringly- is also a practice of self-love. It’s about nurturing yourself on deep levels. From the way you move your body, to what you consciously consume to nourish yourself with food, media and relationships. And revising your relationship with yourself and letting go of everything you carried in the first half of your life that never did serve you. Wendy models more than clothes. She models how to be elegantly fearless by breathing deeply into herself, one day at a time.
Connection
My most cherished relationships are such that I am inspired by someone as much as they are inspired by me. Our connection runs deep- because we allow each other to be seen and supported. We admire one another. And we inspire one another. And respect is of course, a given.
Wendy came to me a few years back when she ordered a few Kimonos online when she came across my Kimonos on Instagram. It was a sequin Kimono that fellow inspirer Rocky Barnes wore and had to have it. And that’s when her Kimono addiction began, if it wasn’t already beckoning.
What I love about Wendy’s style is that we share a similar casual-chic tom-boy aesthetic appreciation. We like to pair boyish elements with strong basics and then some cool feminine pieces that help bring an entire outfit to a very effortless level. Nothing fussy or overtly contrived. And adhering to the mantra of loving and wearing- time and time again- the pieces you invest in and absolutely love. Conscious fashion is also about being very discerning about your purchases. Buy things you want to live in. And Kimonos are definitely something to live in. From the moment you wake up, to when you head out the door- to when you come back home. You could easily wear 2 to 3 Kimonos a day. It embodies a lifestyle that is about comfort, beauty and ease and flow. The Kimono is a way of life.
