Rita Ghanime is a Los Angeles based fashion designer that funnels magic from the cosmos and pours intention and love into all that she creates into her Kimono world. Connecting to the stars and her kindred star-sister was always part of their destiny. We both have a mutual love, respect, and devotion to freedom, art, music, quality, design, the stars + sacred prose of life. Our paths crossed synchronistically in Los Angeles seven years ago and grew into a beautiful sistership. This is our love child–a kimono star amulet collection, gifting the wearer with magic and an omen.
As a designer, I really wanted to create a celestial sorbet of Kimono colors that can be worn easily over anything. Drape over a bikini poolside, or with jeans and t-shirt- or over an all black outfit for a little extra magic. We are moving into the light and out of the dark and into a consciousness age of accession. These Kimonos embody the vibration of choosing to soar and sparkle, even in the dark. Like a star in the night sky. Poetic, yes, but potent. Pretty but more importantly, powerful. Like you.

2020’s Prohibition Dance/Lipsynch Kimono Disco
Months ago, I invited two of my soul-sisters (Kate Spare & Karola Raimond) to-come over to my studio, dress up in Kimonos and disco dance/lipsynch. We were all craving fun, freedom, dancing and a little glamour. We sipped on champagne, did our make up and then learned a song and danced for 2 hours. It became our thing- a little prohibition underground quarantine fun.
ASTRAL KIMONO COLLECTION
With the birth of the Astral Kimono Collection- I had another retro 70’s vision for something on a grander scale. I saw my sisters and I dancing in bathing suits high upon a cliff near the ocean. I had been working with director & videographer/editor Jennifer Borcea to launch my Astral Collection- so decided to ask her to video it for us. One more Kimono sister was summoned, Alyssa Diaz, and our group was complete. I found an underground version (care of Thomas Koch) of Magic (Olivia Newton John) and braided us all disco headbands and brought gold sparkles, bubbles, geisha fans and intentions of love & magic to our video shoot. Twin House Studios created custom iridescent Starlight earrings for us to wear. It was Sunday morning, and my darling sisters drove out at 6:30 am an hour deep into Malibu for me. I was touched, ecstatic and grateful.
CIRCLE OF INTENTION
We began in a circle of intention, held each others hands & with eyes closed and open hearts we called in our magic. We spoke of our intention to inspe others to find their bliss and how it would conjure their dreams into reality. Then we all stated our personal dreams and let the ocean’s power lift it to the heavens. And so it is.
We danced, we laughed, we felt free, cosmic and magical.
At the end of our shoot, as we were wrapping up, 4 Kimono Pirates had hiked up the cliff. We smiled and then an idea sparked. We took off our Kimonos, and asked them to take off their shirts. The young men humored us and they posed and laughed with us. Spontaneity & synchronicity is also proof of magic.
