The Shirting Kimono was inspired by a men’s classic button-up pinstripe cotton shirt. It’s easy style and comfort is perfect for wearing alone or layering under or beneath other Kimonos. It’s feels very chic and very fresh, exactly what a good men’s dress shirt does.
For this look, I chose to style it over the Lizard Queen Kimono- and switched it up by wearing it on top of it- to wear it open as a shirt/Kimono hybrid. The proportions and fabric textures also work very well together- as the Shirting Kimono is airy and shorter in contrast to the Lizard Queen which is more drapey as it hangs on your body with more weight. I like how the Lizard Queen looks over jeans (rolled up to the ankles) and feels unexpected- kind of like a dress over jeans. It’s important to belt it at the waist so you can create a sleeker look- as jeans are boyfriend style and baggy- and the Shirting Kimono is left open and roomy. When you style your Kimono- you want to work with the natural shape of your body and either let the piece hang loosely or belt it to bring it closer to accentuate shape.
